Currently Encompass Medical Group does not have an exact date when the COVID-19 vaccine will be available for us to administer to our patients.
The vaccine will be rolled out in phases as directed by the FDA. The phases consist of the below:
We understand that there may be concerns over the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine. The FDA has a very stringent process for overseeing the many different vaccine trials and is required to make decisions that are guided by science and data regarding the approval of COVID-19 vaccines. The FDA’s approval process is committed to safety, quality and high reliability and would not have approved a vaccine without being certain it meets their standards. It is important to understand that you cannot get COVID-19 from the vaccine.
At this time, both current manufacturers require two doses separated by either 21 or 28 days. The second dose MUST be completed with the same vaccination brand as the first dose.
If you have had COVID 19, the CDC does not recommend the vaccine for patients that have been infected with the COVID-19 virus within the past 14 days. If you have had COVID and received either convalescent plasma or monoclonal antibodies, you should not receive the vaccine for 90 days as these drugs may interfere with its effectiveness.
As with any vaccine, there can be side effects for the COVID 19 vaccine. Those side effects include: injection site pain, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, fever, injection site swelling and/or redness, nausea, feeling unwell and swollen lymph nodes. Please report any of these to your provider.
Walgreens and CVS Pharmacies have enrolled directly into the COVID-19 Vaccination program with the CDC to receive federal vaccine allocations to vaccinate residents and workers in long-term care facilities. Whether they will have the ability to vaccinate the general population has yet to be determined.
The answer is YES. Vaccinations work by teaching your immune system how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. This immunity protects you from getting sick from COVID-19.
